Serena Williams' Ad For Video Game Seen As Too Racy
The above ad was pulled from the internet recently due to an unauthorized posting to youtube. Fear of the black booty? I jest but what else can it be when we are inundated with sexualized advertisements at all times of the day. There isn't any more skin here than any music video and if 2K Sports wanted to, they could restrict broadcast to later hours. MTV, Spike TV and G4 among others show content like this all the time. According to Joystiq, "2K Sports' official statement: 'As part of the process for creating marketing campaigns to support our titles, we pursue a variety of creative avenues. This video is not part of the title's final marketing campaign and its distribution was unauthorized.' Thanks to SPONG.COM for keeping this alive.

Common & Nas: Ghetto Dreams
Two of the most prolific and most eloquent eMCees ever to breathe life into a mic is making a collaboration. Chi-Town's finest Common is teaming up with QB's favored son, Nas. The clip above is all I could find but what a find! I'm told longtime Common producer NO I.D. did this track. It's a banger. Making the stink face as I keep hitting play. I can't wait because this is the hiphop that I miss, for real! Lonnie and Nasir trade verses in this snippet believed to be on Common’s upcoming album, The Dreamer, The Believer. Full version drops June 23. Stay tuned!

2011 BROOKLYN HIP HOP FESTIVAL Ticket Packages Now On Sale
Brooklyn Bodega is announcing discounted ticket packages making the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF) New York City's largest but most affordable event.
"Hip-Hop events that cost $50, $60, $100 and more are antithetical to the roots of this culture. Hip-Hop started out in the park with people like Cindy Campbell [Kool Herc's sister] throwing parties for $1 to buy back-to-school clothes. Corporate interests have hijacked our culture charging exorbitant fees that make Hip-Hop events available to only one homogenous group. With these ticket packages, we are cutting closer-to-the-bone to pass on savings directly to our Bodega Family. I also want to take this time to shout out other organizations that venture to make their events affordable to the masses as well: Celebrate Brooklyn, Summer Stage and Tools of War (among others)." - Wes Jackson, Executive Director of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
Here are the packages:
The Family 4-Pack
2 adult and 2 kid tickets to the Main Day and Family Day - $35 (savings of 40%)
The Long Weekend Package
Entry to "Salute The DJ" on Thursday - 7/14, "The Bodega Awards" on Friday - 7/15, "Family Day", "Main Day", & "After Party" on Saturday - 7/16 - $45 (savings of $50)
VIP All-Week Access Pass
Badge that gets you into every BHF '11 event (Show & Prove Super Bowl 7/11, Bodega Art Show 7/12, Bodega Education Initiative 7/13, Salute The DJ 7/14, Bodega Awards 7/15, Family Day-Main Day-After Party 7/16) + official T-shirt and Festival goodie bag - $65 (valued over $100)

Bootsy Collins @ The Congress Theater in Chicago- Half Price Tickets ($12.50) Today Only!
Funk legend Bootsy Collins in Chicago … and you can see it for half off the Congress Theater ticket price of $25. Real Deal value to see Bootsy Collins in concert in Chicago at the Congress Theater for only $12.50!
Riot Fest brings Bootsy Collins to the Congress Theater. Since it’s Bootsy, this night will be a celebration of one of the funkiest bassists in any musical galaxy.
Bootsy Collins began his career in 1968 with the Pacemakers, a band he formed with his brother. Two years later, James Brown called the band out to back him as the JB’s. Bootsy was just 18 years old at the time. He says James Brown taught him the basis for everything he’s been doing ever since. “You hit it on the one, then you fit your different notes, what you feel, in between… Then you wanna break it down.” With George Clinton, he broke it down and expanded it exponentially in the Parliament-Funkadelic universe, then with his own Bootsy’s Rubber Band. In the ’90s, he returned to music with Deee-lite and has since collaborated with such diverse artists as Hardware, Groovegrass Boyz, Buckethead, and Snoop Dogg.

VIDEO: BEKAY & DJ Dbefekt- "Remember"
Bekay teams with producer/DJ Dbefekt for this short film titled "Remember". Bekay and DB portray Jews on the run from Nazis during World War II. Filmed in the Czech Republic, Bekay spits a heartfelt narrative about the wickedness of the holocaust. I'm seeing big things for Bekay as he looks great on film and in period costume. He dedicates the video to all those in history that have ever suffered through prejudice and persecution due to the color of their skin, culture or religion. Salute!

Rapathon 5! 28 Hours of Hiphop!
The Rapathon is known for having over 100 MC’s who’s skills on the mike are quite high. This is number 5. This is definitely not for the unskilled.
This year a "major" celebrity decided to enter this lion's den. None other than TO's own Drake(Aubrey Graham). When Young Money's flagship artist was asked why, the 25 year old rapper stated that he wanted to be involved in an experience that really tested his freestyle skills. These skills were once questioned during an appearance on Hot 97′s Funk Master Flex Show with the questionable use of a Blackberry. Drake has stated that he does not view his fame as advantageous; he simply wants to be treated like one of the guys. I didn't see Drake's performance but I don't think he went in like he should have.
I came in @ 9:00am and see my man Priest Forever going hard and he tweeted he was going on @ like 7pm! Rhymestein, David Blain, and Mr.B was going in as well. Just watching the ingenuity and imagination to keep the flow going is amazing. Watching this I feel like when I first discovered hiphop. Can't wait til next year. The Dugout got your back!

Why do people hate hiphop?
I've asked so many people this and I can never get a straight answer. We write this because of Sean Hannity and the other uptight asses at Fox News because of their recent attack on The Obama Administration for inviting chicago eMCee Common to the White House.
They have so much anger in their hearts and it show when you point at Common as a gangster rapper. Look at Jon Stewart's earlier rsponse to this.
OMG! You be the judge. Nobody said shit when Eazy E showed up at the white house with the first Bush with a cash donation. Republicans... Please leave a comment.

MOS DEF To Appear In Upcoming Season of DEXTER
As reported on THE DAILY BLAM!, rapper/actor Mos Def has joined the upcoming sixth season of Showtime's hit cable series "Dexter". Mos will play an ex-con with a dark secret. Read more at the link above.
Outrage Over COMMON's Invitation To The White House
HUFFINGTON POST reports that First Lady Michelle Obama had some poets over to the White House to read some poetry, and one of those poets is Chicago rapper Common. Some have expressed outrage that Common was invited due to a few lyrics from some of his past work. Websites such as the DAILY CALLER and FOX NATION have condemned his invitation due to older lyrics/poetry that includes threats to shoot police and at least one passage calling for the "burn[ing]" of then-President George W. Bush. Smells like out of touch GOP sympathizers. Fox Nation even labels Common as "vile". HUH???!! The below video of Common's poem "Letter To The Law" included the content in question. Read the above links for the story.
